I tried this again last night with a different palette, trying for a more muted midground and better atmospheric perspective. It's also a slightly larger size, and I think it's incrementally an improvement overall. I'm happy with it although again this is an indoor photo with some glare that someday when it gets above 20F I will take outside for a better photo.

Catalog cover
I did this one last night from a catalog cover for a fancy furniture company that we got in the mail. I put it on my projector to get the drawing right and then tried to simplify the shapes as much as I could. There is some glare on the photo since I took it indoors rather than in the more even and color "correct" outdoor light, but since we have a foot of snow on the ground and the temp was around zero last night that's as good as I'm going to have for awhile. The color turned out more saturated in the mid-ground than I had intended but I'm still please overall with it. I may try it again with a more muted palette in order to try to get a little more atmospheric perspective/depth. Or maybe not.

Varenna street scene
We were lucky enough to enjoy a trip to Italy in 2017 including a stop in Varenna on the shores of Lake Como. This is a scene we came upon while wandering the streets.

31st Street Sunset
When my son Tom graduated from college we rented an AirBnB in New York and this was the view from our 3rd floor apartment. I loved the way the light bounced off all the glass buildings at sunset one evening and took a snapshot that later became this painting. It's one of my larger ones, and has a lot of straight hard edges which were a challenge to keep clean.

Leonard's Cows
My old high school friend Leonard was out feeding his cows one wintery morning a couple of years ago and posted a photo to FB which I thought was pretty cool. I did this in a larger size and have it hanging in my office at work now.

Calm Marina
From a photo I took in San Francisco in November 2018 while wandering near Fisherman's Wharf. It was very smoky due to the fires around Paradise which made for unpleasant breathing but nice atmospheric perspective.

Escape committee meeting
My old friend Bob has a very sweet chicken coop on his hobby farm outside Lincoln. We were there one beautiful sunny evening this fall and I took a snapshot and did this later in the studio. I like to think the chickens are plotting their escape plan, although they have a really sweet life (for a chicken) in Bob's chicken coop. 8x10 oil on canvas board.

Overcast summer day in Kansas
This one is from a photo of some cows grazing in a field on an overcast day in Kansas. I gave it to my mom, who is my biggest collector by far. 8x10, oil on canvas board
Slumberland poppies
Awhile back, I was walking through slumberland shopping for some new guestroom beds with my wife and saw a couple of pictures for sale similar to this. I liked the warm color scheme and simple design and did these later. 10x10 oil on canvas board.
